Habit Retention

Writing after approximately three months. I forgot about writing for many days and never actually did it. It's a brutal reminder that habits have terrible retention curves unless there is an external stimulus or incentive, even when you are fully convinced and tell yourself that there are benefits to the activity.

The path to self-improvement is hard—whether it's the gym, writing, speaking publicly, learning an instrument, learning a skill (like coding), or reading. Being distracted adults who convince ourselves that other things are more important doesn't help.

I didn't write because... XYZ? No, I didn't write because I didn't make it a priority. This is part of what makes us human. We can reflect over long periods of time, and we can stop and start. But that means we can also come back to the "good habit." And I will try again!
